Bugs, bugs and more bugs! As you can tell from our Question of the Day, we are knee deep in all things bugs! The kids have been working on learning how to write the word bug and hear all of the sounds of the word! This has lead to discussions about word sounds, how many sounds are in words and even the fact that we can’t hear some sounds. I just love how they learn and ask questions as they go and that leads to more learning!
READ IT AGAIN: Last week, we read “Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf” by Lois Ehlert. We worked on recognizing the word leaf based on pictures in the book, the beginning sound of the word and seeing the word several times! They really enjoy when they “read” the book!
This week, we read the book “The Very Sleepy Sloth” by Andrew Murray. This week we worked on hearing the first sound of a word and then, we worked on hearing all of the sounds in words and writing the word. The children’s letter/sound knowledge is really growing!I like to see them trying to hear the sounds and make words!
SNACK: Yaretzi was our snack person last week! The tortilla pizza’s were a HIT! They love making putting their snack together! This week’s snack family was Christian. The peanut butter and apples is always a hit!
Next week our snack family is Manny and family!
SCHOOL STORE: The 5th grade class has a “school store” with items to purchase. These items are generally $.50 to $5.00. There are pens, squish balls and other assorted items. The money raised helps the 5th grade fund their end of the year trip. This year, they are going to Adventurland. I know some of you have contacted me about this throughout the year.If you want to send $$, that is fine.I just ask that the child gives me the money so it isn’t lost throughout the day. After lunch, the children get to go shopping. The store is open on Tuesday’s and Friday’s. If you have questions, please let me know.
GRADUATION: Graduation is fast approaching! It’s hard to believe that in just 4 short weeks, I will be presenting you the class of 2032!! Please make plans to attend the graduation at 10:30 in the church with a cookie reception in Tobin Hall. Please have your child in Tobin Hall about 10:20 so that we can get lined up. You will go on into the church then.
RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE AND SAFE: With the end of the year fast approaching, the children are getting a little more restless and we are seeing more issues between kids. It’s nice that we can get outside some but we are really working on making sure we remember to be respectful to children and teachers, to be safe and to be responsible. Please help us by speaking with your children at home about following directions, remembering to take care of themselves and their belongings and listening to others, this includes other teachers that may come into the room.
NEXT WEEK: I will be absent on Wednesday, May 8 thru Friday, May 10. Mrs. Horak will be my substitute. If you need to call your child in absent, please call the school at 319-653-3631.They can relay any messages to the classroom! I will NOT be doing a newsletter next week!
