Please pray for:- Our children and youth, who will be receiving the sacraments of first Eucharist and Confirmation this weekend.
- Chris Askew, who is being treated for serious illness.
- Guadalupe Delgado, who died this past week. She was the mother of Aracely Rivera and mother-in law of Deacon Jose Rivera.
- Carol Guilbert, who is seriously ill. She is the sister-in-law of Deacon Terry Guilbert.
Special Masses this weekend. This weekend we will have First Eucharist at three of our Masses and confirmation at one as follows:
- 5:00 PM Vigil: First Eucharist
- 8:30 AM Sunday: First Eucharist
- 12:15 PM Sunday: First Eucharist
- 5:00 PM Sunday: Confirmation
This is a wonderful opportunity to experience being with our children and youth as they receive these sacraments. Two of the Masses, the 5:30 vigil and the 5:00 PM Sunday Confirmation Mass, will be somewhat longer than usual because of the large number of children and youth receiving these sacraments. That means, as well, that there will be a larger number of people present at those Masses. However, every year I am reminded that the extra time is so worth spending, because these Masses rank with Christmas and Easter as some of the most wonderful experiences of the liturgical year.
Saying goodbye to some my staffThis week there will be a party to say goodbye to some of our staff members that are moving on from here. I want to take a moment to recognize and appreciated them, and I believe you do also. So, to that end, we have a party planned for Thursday, May 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Great Hall. Everyone is invited. Please bring an appetizer to share. Staff that are leaving in June: Joelle Maryn, Jose Juan Valdez, Tracy Rodenborn and Beverly Aviles. And I know the follow-on question is are we hiring, and the answer is yes. I will announce very shortly the new staff that are coming aboard this summer. Hope to see you on Thursday.
Fr Barry on vacationFr. Barry will be on vacation from May 15 until May 26. Please pray for him that he has a restful time away.
Pastoral Council ElectionsThe pastoral council is a wonderful group of men and women who meet with me each month. Their role is to help me to be more in touch with parish life, to advise me and to devise, and put into action things that make our experience of being part of this parish good for all. Each year we elect new members to three year terms on the council. Elections are coming up in June. I am asking parishioners to encourage each other to run. So, if someone approaches you and encourages you to run for the council, please prayerfully consider doing so. More information is on our website as is the application form:
www.emmausparish.org/pastoral-council.
You are welcome to nominate yourself as well.
Knights of ColumbusI have always appreciated the Knights of Columbus and just want a moment to clarify their role at Emmaus. We have a wonderful council (#14025) that has chosen to serve here. They give to Emmaus in many, many ways, and we will be hearing more about this in the next month. They also work closely with Partners in Hope here in Lakeway. PIH meets the Knight’s international and strict guidelines on who, what and how they serve those that are economically disadvantaged and marginalized in our community. The Knights are open, always, to new members. Please contact Richard Gambatese at 707-486-2929 if you would like to learn more about this Catholic fraternal service organization.

The Stoljani’s are back!!Great authentic Italian food is difficult to find in Austin, especially at reasonable prices. Some of you may remember that Napoli’s in Bee Cave was one of my favorite Italian restaurants until the Stoljani family, who owned it, sold it and moved on to opening a new place in Lockhart. However after being gone for two years, the Stoljani’s are back. They have opened a new restaurant, Giovanni’s Table, at 11701 Bee Caves Rd in Bee Cave. As another diner of Italian heritage mentioned to me when I was there recently, Giovanni’s Table offers truly authentic Italian fare. I blessed the restaurant shortly after it opened and I was rewarded with Daniel’s special. I recommend it highly along with the stuffed mushrooms that I missed greatly these past two years. If you go, please tell Giovanni and Lina that you got the news of their being back from me.
And Happy Mother's Day on Sunday - I truly hope it is a wonderful day for all mothers.
