Keep Your Words
Jesus said, "Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him." (John 14:23-24)
Obedience to Jesus’s teachings it the measure of our love for the Lord. We read and hear God’s word daily, I hope! We profess our belief in Him. Do we take them seriously? The early Christian community did. They were not afraid of giving witness to the Risen Christ despite all level of rejection and persecution. They believed that any power they possessed or any good they accomplished was due to God alone. They understood the truth that Jesus is in them. “I have been crucified with Christ; yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me. (Galatians 2:19b-20a) We do not expect to do exactly what the early disciples did, but we must realize that God lives and acts within us. Whatever good we do or evil we overcome, is the direct result of that presence and action of God and not of any power or talent we may claim as our own. Let us give thank and praise to the one true God who makes His dwelling place within us. You might use the following questions to ask your loved ones and share with them your answer today:
+ What Jesus' words do you find the most challenging and why?
+ What are some Jesus’ words that you find most comfort in and why?
O Lord, you have given us your word for a light to shine upon our path; grant us so to meditate on that word, and follow its teaching, that we may find in it the light that shines more and more until the perfect day. (Prayer by St. Jerome)
Blessed Mother Mary, you are the dwelling place of Jesus, the incarnated word, intercede for us all. Hail Mary full of Grace…
Peace in Risen Christ,
