Dear Parishioners,
Tomorrow is the
Feast of the Ascension - the day on which Our Lord, Jesus Christ, rose
bodily into heaven in the presence of the Apostles.
Imagine that.
What must that have looked like? How could the Apostles have felt?
First, they paid Him homage.
Then they returned to the city, Jerusalem, at Christ's behest,
with great joy!
With great joy?! Their leader, our Savior, left them, with no assurances concerning their future or their safety, telling them to remain in the city and wait for
something. We know now what that
something is, of course. Not sure? Here's a hint. Think next week.
The Ascension is our reminder after the Resurrection that we can join Our Father and our loved ones who led good, faithful lives, one day, body and soul, in Heaven.
So... What are you going to do tomorrow... on the Feast of the Ascension?
Our culture loves superheros. So - be a hero, like the Apostles. Don't be scared. Pay Him homage. Come to Mass
with great joy. It is a Holy Day of Obligation. Then pray for inspiration from the
Holy Spirit (another hint) to strengthen your faith.
Masses for the Feast of the Ascension will take place tonight at 7:30PM, and tomorrow at 8:30AM, and 12 Noon. I look forward to seeing you there.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Fr. Ashman
