Day 5: Thy Kingdom Come
Look...and be curious
Take a moment to see where you are. What do you see? What do you hear? Where is God at this very moment?
Wait... with prayerful expectation
Invite God to come with the simple prayer: Come Holy Spirit, Thy Kingdom Come
Read...the text with an open mind
You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile. Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you.
Matthew 5:38-42
Listen... for a word with a willing heart
Listen for where God is speaking to you in this reading.
Respond... with prayer and action
O God of all we are and have, in the face of oppression help us to release to you all that which holds us back to give up gladly all that we carry, not resisting, not refusing - even walking the second mile for the pure pleasure of seeing it go.
(Recall the five people who you have decided to pray for over the next 11 days.)
Give them the peace they need.
Give them the grace they need.
Give them the strength they need.
Give them the healing they need.
Give them the love they need.
Give them Jesus.
Amen.
