TRINITY SUNDAY
Connections by
Dick FolgerDo you recall a few years back when the Mass was revised, and we started saying “consubstantial” — a tongue-twisting word that was hard to say and even harder to understand. Today, consubstantial easily rolls off our tongue each time we recite the Creed. Webster’s definition of that word, “of the same substance,” can actually give us insight into the Trinity. We might think of our bodies and how our head, hand and foot are all different, but sill parts of the same body.
If we were sculpting an image of the Trinity, the Father, Son and Spirit would all be formed from the same clay. All three persons are uniquely different, but still consubstantial.
-- Pray for me that the Holy Spirit will guide me in preparing and delivering the homily this weekend.
WEDDING
Saturday 5 pm Mass will include the wedding of Valerie Galán & Javier Martinez. The wedding rite will include the Exchange of Vow and rings, the presentation of the "arras" (coins) and the place placing of the Laso.
Today many couples depend on two incomes in order to manage their financial needs. So the words that accompany the giving and receiving of the "arras" can express this contemporary reality as well as communicate the sacrifice that each makes for the other. They also express the couples commitment to being a sign of God's love to the world, especially to those in need. The "arras" represent the sacrifice not just for each other but also for those who come to the couple seeking care and kindness.
The Lazo or Lasso that looks like an oversized rosary is placed on the shoulders of the bride and groom, now husband and wife. It is a sign of the bond of unity that has been formed by the couple by their marriage vows.
UCA
Because we are short almost $5000 to payoff last years United Catholic Appeal quota we will start a second collection next Sunday to assist paying the balance. Parishioners who did not pledge or participate in last years campaign are encouraged to be generous to this 2nd collection.
For this years UCA pledges letters and/or phone calls will be made to encourage parishioners to participate.
Happy Father's Day
We pray for God's blessing upon all fathers, that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers. That the example of their faith and love shine forth. And that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect.
