My first year at Christ the King was unquestionably one of the most rewarding (and challenging) experiences of my life thus far. We have a wonderful core group of musicians who work very hard to provide you with the best and most versatile liturgical music available. I am very happy to be your Music Director and look forward to another incredible year.
The two main issues I noticed during my first year are the low numbers of the Youth Choir, and the need for more Tenor and Bass voices in the Festival Choir (I would graciously accept more Sopranos and Altos as well)! Over the years, the Youth Choir was one of the most prominent Catholic youth choir’s in the city. As your Music Director, I would love to see this group grow and flourish.
I completely understand that rehearsals are a big time commitment. However, giving back to your community is an important step in growing in faith, and also, growing as one; one body, one spirit, one voice. Music brings people together. It is an example of one of the world’s highest arts. As many of you know, art feeds.
For the youth, music has an incredible impact on their early formation. It encourages focus, discipline and determination - all key elements in a successful education, life and career. Many college scholarships are available for young singers. One major requirement of these scholarships is to continue singing in choirs throughout their years of higher education. Also, singing in any of Christ the King’s choirs, music groups, or song leading will always count as a community service - another attribute often required for scholarships and merit based societies for high school and college. At Christ the King, we are proud to provide our youth with necessary skills to gain a head start and pave their way to a successful student career and later, a fulfilling, spiritual and rewarding life as adults.
Please consider sharing your musical talents to ensure the future of music making at this wonderful parish. I welcome your emails with any questions. Also, you are more than welcome to come up and introduce yourself after Mass. I am more than happy to speak with you and look forward to your responses.
Respectfully,
Dr. Jonathan Bezdegian
