Some interesting facts on the importance of type O bloodEvery unit collected can help save a life. While all blood types
are needed; blood types O negative and O positive must be collected at
a higher rate to keep up with hospital demand.
In emergency situations when there’s no time to determine a patient’s
blood type or for immune deficient infants, doctors reach for type O blood.
Type O negative can be given to any patient, regardless of their type and
in critical trauma situations; type O positive blood can be given to over
80% of the population and is overall the most in-demand blood type.
Both critical blood types are always in high demand.
