Capital Campaign Committee Update
The Capital Campaign Committee has great progress to report!
- Work on the school roof is complete.
- The secure doorway leading to the adoration chapel has been installed.
- The entire church building has been re-keyed for security purposes.
- The equipment for the new sound system has been ordered and the new system will be installed as soon as the equipment is received.
In addition to these accomplishments, carpeting bids have been received, and Father will be making decisions soon so that installation can begin.
The Capital Campaign Committee is committed to keeping the parish informed about progress on all the proposed projects. Keep your eye on the Flocknote and bulletin for future updates.
There is one last chance to come to an information session at Our Lady of Fatima about the upcoming Denver Catholic Catechetical School year. Don't miss out! The two-year program is scheduled to meet Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in the OLF Fireside Room beginning this fall.
The final information session in the Fireside Room at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, August 29.
About Our Catechetical School: The mission of the Denver Catholic Catechetical School is to place people in contact and communion with the Person of Christ, who alone leads us to the heart of the Father in the Spirit – in essence, making and maturing disciples.
We do this through a prayerful, organic, and systematic presentation of the Catholic Faith, contained both in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition (Catechism of the Catholic Church 80-82). This occurs in a setting that takes advantage of all the facets of effective adult learning: engaging lectures, small group dynamics, independent study, and personal application.
In the Word
“Faith is the realization of what is
hoped for and evidence of things not seen.”
-
Hebrews 11:1
In the 11th chapter of the Letter to the Hebrews, the author focuses on the faith and faithlessness of our ancient Jewish fathers and mothers. Today’s first reading points us specifically to Abraham. Father of the covenant, father of a promised son, long-denied, whose sacrifice God then demands, Abraham is a primary witness to “faith [in] the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.” Poised above his beloved Isaac with the knife, Abraham never doubts in God’s provision. And God provides.
In today’s gospel the Lord Jesus commands us too to trust in God’s provision: Do not be afraid. Sell your belongings. Give. Be prepared. Jesus might equally have told his disciples: Sacrifice your attachments to safety, to security, to doing what you want, when you want. We are invited to lay our very lives upon the altar of sacrifice, because the Son himself goes before us. Jesus is inviting us to follow his example in depending completely on the God who fulfills his promises. For, “it is written: ‘What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard/and what has not entered the human heart/what God has prepared for those who love him,’ this God has revealed to us through the Spirit” (1 Cor 2:9-10).
For further reflection
Maybe when we hear “faith,” we think about believing the right things – ideas, doctrine, dogma. A biblical understanding of faith asks us for something much more challenging than intellectual assent. Biblical faith asks us to act, to live our lives as if the promises of God are true. Below are scripture verses that proclaim some of God’s promises to us. Choose one or more of the verses below and pray with them. Ask yourself, “Do I believe this is true? Do I believe this is true for me?”
Exodus 14:14; Deuteronomy 31:8; Psalm 34:17; Isaiah 40:29; Isaiah 41:13; Jeremiah 29:11; Mark 11:24; John 3:16; Romans 8:28; Philippians 4:19; James 4:7; 1 John 1:9
