The first full week was great! This is a very smart, quick to catch on, group of kiddos. I sent home a copy of the snack list and some healthy options for it. Damian is on the list next week.
This week we went over all of our Daily 5 I charts which they picked up again quickly. We have planted our Brassica seeds and have been amazed at how fast they've already grown. The class is working on sound moves for all of the letters to make a secret code during Reading Heavenly, and in Math we have made odd and even numbers, made number sentences with ten frames, and looked at how base ten blocks can be used to make double digit numbers.
Next week in...
Math-
They will continue to use base ten blocks to create 2 digit numbers, write numbers in different ways, and problem solve with tens and ones.
Reading-
We'll practice touching sounds to help read an unknown word, practice short vowel vocabulary words, and practice with closed syllable words to get ready for our first reading selection. I've decided to hold off on our first spelling test until we are done with these phonics lessons, as it is recommended with our new 2nd grade curriculum.
Science and Social Studies-
The class will continue observing and recording their plant growth. They will also observe and record what our new caterpillars are doing and measure their growth. During Social Studies we will discuss the difference between primary and secondary sources, and look at a poster to help further explain sourcing. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Have a great Labor Day weekend!
