Happy Labor Day! We hope that you have had a wonderful summer! As we mark the end of summer and head into a new season and pace of life, we are grateful that you are part of Saint Andrew Parish.

Time to Get In Shape! 5k Race!
Make sure your calendars are marked for the annual Running of the Bulldogs on the morning of Sunday, October 27, 2019. This race along beautiful lake Michigan is family-friendly fun for everyone! It gives you a goal to aim for and reason to hit the gym or favorite running path now! Registration and additional details are coming soon!
Introducing Fr. Silvanus!
Fr. Silvanus Kidaha has been appointed as an extern priest for the Archdiocese of Chicago and will be living with us at Saint Andrew as he formally awaits his appointment to serve as our new associate pastor! Fr. Silvanus comes from his home in Tanzania and arrived yesterday. He had made a short visit to Saint Andrew over a year ago when he began the process applying to serve in the Archdiocese. Be sure to welcome him when you see him. We are glad that he will be with us for the foreseeable future!
Religious Education Starts Sunday
School children in our public schools head back to class tomorrow and that means it is also time to start Religious Education for children grades K-8 at Saint Andrew. Our program begins this Sunday, September 8, 2019 with a meeting for parents and children at 9:00am in the Auditorium. We can't wait to see you there! Haven't signed up yet? Not a problem. Since today is Labor Day, it is always a good thing to remember that it is more than just a day off and more than the end of Summer.
Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. The celebration grew out of long struggles to establish the rights of workers, particularly through labor unions. The Catholic Church stood by workers during these struggles and continues to advocate for them today.
The short video below (now a couple years old) is a reminder of how even the Pope has advocated for the importance of labor unions and the dignity of work in our current age. He reflections the tradition of Catholic Social Teaching which is one of the best kept secrets in the Catholic Intellectual Tradition.
