Celebrating the feast of Mother Teresa of Calcutta
Celebrating the feast day of St. Teresa of Calcutta!
Many of you parents probably remember her as "Mother Teresa" as she is one of the Church's newest saints and lived during your lifetime! Did you know that every canonized saint has a designated feast day? Mother Teresa's feast date was chosen because it was the day she died (1997) and entered her eternal reward.
During her earthly ministry, she founded a new religious community, the Missionaries of Charity, that has become a worldwide organization with more than 4,000 sisters in over 130 countries, not to mention priests, brothers and lay people who belong to the Missionaries of Charity family. We have some of Mother Teresa's sisters serving here in St. Louis!
Perhaps today would be a great day to talk about the needs of the poor and how each person in your family could serve the poor. St. Teresa's memorable line, counted on five fingers, "You - did - it - to - me" (Matthew 25), helps her sisters and all of us to reflect on Christ's command to serve others.
Other ways to celebrate Mother Teresa's feast day: bring a meal to someone in need, learn about her life, color a picture, pray the "Radiating Christ" prayer which her sisters pray every day after Mass...so many ideas! Click below to get coloring pages!
Several films have been made about Mother Teresa...one is available on Formed.org. It's almost 3 hours long, but here's a clip to wet your appetite! (Don't have a FORMED account? Go to assumptionstl.formed.org to get FREE access to these videos!)
If you do something fun to celebrate today, be sure to post your family's pictures on the Faith in the Home facebook page so all can see and be inspired by your Faith in your home!
