Hello School Parents of SFDS,
I pray this finds you well as we wind down our summer and return to school and our fall routine. I am ready for routine and excited to see our church when construction is completed. It is an exciting time to be at St. Francis as we encounter Christ together.
As you know our evangelization efforts continue. We have had some great springboard events from REBOOT last fall, to Father's homily series and our Evangelization Summit this past spring.
Father and I would like to invite you to The Prayer and Evangelization training on September 7th and 8th. It is open to everyone.
The nominal cost of $15 is to cover lunch for both days. The cost is the same even if you can only come to one day... and still a deal given the amazing conference that is prepared for us. Please pass the word to all.
Studies show the most effective offerings include setting knowledge and experience into motion and we know this because our mission is to Make Disciples AND DISCIPLE MAKERS. That is what this training is about, we can reach out to others and equip and empower them to become disciples or disciple-makers and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.
You can register online. If that is not possible, our office staff is prepared to help you with registration and payment. www.stpaulse.com/newark or (657) 777-2963
Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s),
We are excited to share that Mrs. Missy Oberhauser is completing her Ohio State University Bachelor of Social Work degree this school year! Mrs. Oberhauser served St. Francis last school year as a Kindergarten Aide and greatly enjoyed her work here. This year, Mrs. Oberhauser is joining me in serving our students and families in fulfillment of her internship experience. I am very happy to be working with her directly as her on-site Supervisor. Mrs. Oberhauser will be co-Supervised by Ms. Sara McCoy, Licensed Social Worker (LSW) to ensure she receives specific social work supervision. Ms. McCoy has over 20 years of experience working with school-age children in a variety of settings. We have worked very hard over the summer and these beginning weeks of school to develop a plan to meet the needs of St. Francis and Mrs. Oberhauser’s internship experience.
In June 2019 the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) adopted Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Standards for schools to incorporate in their curriculum. Examples of SEL topics include Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills and Responsible Decision-Making. ODE encourages schools to use these standards as they see fit and provide freedom to schools in how to incorporate SELs. Mrs. Mummey, Ms. McCoy, and I agreed that the topics recommended in the SEL standards are perfect for Mrs. Oberhauser to address in her internship.
Beginning on Monday, September 9, 2019, Mrs. Oberhauser and I will be visiting classrooms on a weekly basis to introduce students to SEL topics and ways to utilize their learning in everyday situations. Students will learn these concepts through games, acting, songs, and stories. We will provide updates to families through School Speaks, emails, and FlockNotes. If you would like more information about the ODE Social-Emotional Learning Standards, we will post them on School Speaks very soon. You can also find them on the ODE website: http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Learning-in-Ohio/Social-Emotional-Learning-Standards.
In addition to these classroom visits, Mrs. Oberhauser will be available to students and families along with me as she continues to learn and implement her school social work skills.
Mrs. Oberhauser brings great joy to St. Francis and her smiles are certainly contagious! We are extremely blessed to have her joining our team in this new role. Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Oberhauser!
Sincerely,
Dr. Kelly E. Cahill Roberts
Dean of Students
