Liturgical Changes
Several liturgical changes, which are meant to enhance our celebration of Mass, will take effect the weekend of September 28–29:
(1) The altar servers will be seated in the sanctuary so that they can carry out their functions more easily.
(2) Lighted candles will accompany the Evangeliary or Book of the Gospels at the proclamation of the Gospel (General Instruction of the Roman Missal, nos.60, 133, 175). The candlesticks in front of the ambo will be removed since they are not envisioned by the Church’s liturgical norms, and because the candles used at the proclamation of the Gospel are meant to give due honor to the Evangeliary, which narrates the words and deeds of Christ. (Whereas the Lectionary contains all of the biblical readings used for Mass, the Evangeliary contains only the Gospel readings and is therefore the object of special veneration.)
(3) At the Preparation of the Gifts, ciboria (bowls) containing unconsecrated hosts will be placed on the altar. This action will complement the placing of chalices with wine on the altar. One ciborium (bowl) will continue to be brought forward at the Preparation of the Gifts, along with a cruet of wine.
(4) The extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion will enter the sanctuary after the priest has received Communion, according to the Church’s norm (no. 162). The extraordinary ministers will also stand closer to the altar, facilitating their reception of Holy Communion.

The Weekend of
September 28-29
A small section of Laurel Street, between Franklin Street and the alleyway, will be closed on the weekend of September 28-29. Laurel Street will thus be inaccessible from Franklin Street. All those who normally approach the Cathedral from Franklin Street, please use Floyd Avenue instead, if you wish to gain access to Cathedral parking, or West Cary Street to access the VCU Parking Deck.
Tuesdays Together Starts next Tuesday,
September 17th
Calling all Parents and caregivers - please join us!
Tuesdays Together is a music and movement program for infants, toddlers, or preschoolers and their parent/caregiver (and older homeschool children are welcome to come). We meet from 10am-11am on Tuesdays in the large downstairs classroom. We hope this time together can help us get to know other parents and caregivers with young children. Bring a snack for your child if you like, we will have coffee and refreshments.

Cathedral parishioners have always been so welcoming to the members in the RCIA process. Our parish community supports those seeking full membership in the Catholic faith through. The Church’s social teaching is a rich treasure of wisdom about building a just society and living lives of holiness amidst the challenges of modern society. Cathedral Choir Back in Session
Cathedral Choir is in full swing and rehearses on Thursday evenings at 6:30 in the sanctuary. We are especially in need of tenors.

RCIA is a process of conversion and spiritual formation for individuals who are interested in living the Christian life in the Catholic tradition. It is time of prayer, study, reflection, faith sharing, on-going discernment and participation in parish life.

The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart (downtown Richmond) seeks a full-time Facilities Director.
This individual is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, renovation, and the upkeep of the Cathedral’s buildings and grounds and for personally performing higher level maintenance functions. This includes but is not limited to the mechanical, plumbing, electrical, hydronic and energy systems. Must have a high school diploma, management experience, ability to read blue prints, and good communication skills. Significant physical effort is required. May need to transport items weighing up to 50 pounds. The Facilities Manager oversees care of the grounds including mowing, pruning, ice and snow removal. Other responsibilities include: monitor parking, coordinate with the Museum of Virginia Catholic History, support Cathedral events as appropriate, oversees building safety and security.

Bicentennial Pilgrimage to National Shrine
Saturday, October 12
Join Bishop Knestout as he kicks off the 200th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Diocese of Richmond with a spiritual pilgrimage to the Basilica in Washington, DC on Saturday, October 12, 2019. The day begins at the Basilica at 10:00 am and concludes following the Sunday Vigil Mass at 5:15 pm. The diocese will provide regional buses within an hour of each parish at the costs of $45 per participant. Pickup locations will be determined in late September. Registration is required. Please only select the regional bus option when registering. Looking for a new way to help your parish family? Want to secure an EXCELLENT parking spot before Mass? We are looking for volunteers to staff the Gift Shop before and after the 9:00am and 5:15pm Sunday Masses. We can schedule one Sunday or more as your schedule allows. This would involve arriving 30 minutes before Mass and staying for 30 minutes after Mass.
