This past weekend St. Mary Parish offered Bishop Robert Barron's book, "Letter to a Suffering Church: A Bishop Speaks on the Sexual Abuse Crisis" to all parishioners.
This scandal has been visible in the Catholic Church for some time and has not only compromised the work of the Church in every way but has left many, many lives in ruins. Catholics continue to ask "When will it end?" and "Is it worth staying?"
Bishop Barron, founder of Word on Fire Catholic Ministries and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, expresses his opinion that this is not the time to leave the Church, but the time to stay and fight. He writes boldly and honestly as he views the current crisis through the lenses of Scripture and Church history, showing that we have faced such egregious scandals before. He reveals how the spiritual treasures of the Church were preserved by holy men and women who recommitted themselves to fighting evil. He also shows that there is a clear path forward for us today. This book can be an uncomfortable read at times, but in the end it is full of encouragement and hope as it offers reasons to stay and fight for all that is good in the Lord. May we continue to live the Gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Praise to you, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, source of all consolation and hope.
By your Son's dying and rising He remains our light in every darkness, our strength in every weakness.
Be the refuge and guardian of all who suffer from abuse and violence.
Comfort them and send healing for their wounds of body, soul and spirit.
Rescue them from bitterness and shame and refresh them with your love.
Heal the brokenness in all victims of abuse and revive the spirits of all who lament this sin.
Help us to follow Jesus in drawing good from evil, life from death.
Make us one with you in your love for justice as we deepen our respect for the dignity of every human life.
Giver of peace, make us one in celebrating your praise, both now and forever.
