Beloved: First of all, I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings be offered for everyone, for kings and for all in authority... (From 1 Timothy 2:1-8)
I know that about half of you reading this can’t stand our President and I know that about half of you can’t stand the Democrats who are vying for his job. I know that half of you probably can’t stand your Governor, your Senator, your Representative, or your Mayor either. I know that many of you don’t want your boss as your boss or you think there is someone better for the job. Whether we like the leadership of our town, county, state, country or not, we are asked to pray for them today by St. Paul. We pray for them not because we want their vision to succeed necessarily, but we pray for them that they will be safe from harm, that they will learn of God’s vision, that they will keep the peace, that they will lead ALL of us and not just their supporters, that God will help them, and because we are called to pray for our enemies! The prayers “for kings and for all in authority” should also be done because it’s just the right thing to do! Instead of hatred, disdain, complaining about leadership, and arguing about whichever political party you despise, pray for them and let the LORD transform their hearts! I need prayers, you need prayers, those in power need prayers, so let’s make us and the world better by listening to St. Paul and getting God involved today! Amen!
