Our days and weeks go by so incredibly fast! I continue to be impressed with how first graders behave and the knowledge they have.
I have to take a minute to brag about how proud I was of your students today. I had a meeting this morning and did not get to my classroom by 8:05 to greet each student the way we do daily. When I walked down the hall, I expected to see them eagerly awaiting me in the hallway outside the door. I was pleasantly surprised that they were seated at their tables and waiting quietly. Some students had done their hot/cold lunch and put their take home folders in their mailboxes. They know the routine and were able to continue on when I was a couple of minutes behind. This shows a great deal about your children! They are true St. James Knights in being responsible, respectful, and safe!
I heard some really positive comments about our learning today. As we worked on antonyms (opposites), short a and short e words, and spelling through whole group instruction and games, students commented that they enjoyed playing and learning. They did not care who won or lost, they were interested in the different games, being active, and learning through movement. I share this because I know that I send home a lot of papers, but please know that we do a lot of games, activities, use manipulatives, work at the board, work in small groups, and partners. There is a lot of activity in our classroom!
We have been integrating math into reading in counting by fives and using tally marks.
I am including some pictures of our art work.
I am also including some pictures of our science work with our lawns. Students really enjoyed “mowing” them this week. We also planted wheat seeds in straws.
We are getting close to being done with FAST testing.
