Low-Gluten Hosts
To assist those who can only receive low-gluten hosts, a new procedure will be implemented beginning September 28–29. Those who are to receive these hosts are asked to bring their own host enclosed in a pyx (a small container used to carry the Eucharist), and to place it on the Offertory table near the main entrance of the church. The pyx(es) will be brought forward at the Preparation of the Gifts and placed on the altar. A designated extraordinary minister of Holy Communion will distribute the consecrated low-gluten host(s) at the corner of the first pew in the right transept (on the St. Vincent de Paul side of the church). The communicant will then be responsible for properly purifying the pyx (with water) after Mass. Those who intend to use low-gluten hosts and need a pyx are asked to contact the parish office.
This new procedure is designed to ensure proper hygiene for all, and to assist those who have a gluten allergy. I would also like to note that if a person is unable to receive the host for whatever reason, he or she can always receive the Precious Blood alone. According to the doctrine of concomitance, the fullness of Christ is received under either Eucharistic species.

September 28-29
A small section of Laurel Street, between Franklin Street and the alleyway, will be closed on the weekend of September 28-29. Laurel Street will thus be inaccessible from Franklin Street. All those who normally approach the Cathedral from Franklin Street, please use Floyd Avenue instead, if you wish to gain access to Cathedral parking, or West Cary Street to access the VCU Parking Deck.

Early Cathedral Closure for Thurs. September 26
The Cathedral will be closed following Daily 12:05pm Mass on Thursday, September 26. The offices will remain open until 5:00pm as usual.
Infant Baptisms...
...will take place on the weekend of October 19 and 20 during the 5:15 Vigil, 9 and 11 am Masses. Baptism class for parents will be on Saturday, October 12 at 10 am. VCU CCM
Dear Cathedral Family, thank you for praying for our new VCU students. This past weekend we hosted our New Student Retreat at Virginia Beach. The twenty-four students in attendance prayed together, enjoyed fellowship, and learned how to follow Jesus Christ during their time in college. They had an incredible time as is evidenced by the many new faces that are hanging around the CCM house since retreat. This time away from the busyness of classes and the city is an essential time for freshmen to be connected with the ministry and feel like they belong. CCM is so grateful for the Cathedral's on-going support that made this retreat possible.

Tuesdays Together
Calling all Parents and caregivers - please join us!
Tuesdays Together is a music and movement program for infants, toddlers, or preschoolers and their parent/caregiver (and older homeschool children are welcome to come). We meet from 10am-11am on Tuesdays in the large downstairs classroom. We hope this time together can help us get to know other parents and caregivers with young children. Bring a snack for your child if you like, we will have coffee and refreshments.

R.C.I.A. MEAL MINISTRY
Cathedral parishioners have always been so welcoming to the members in the RCIA process. Our parish community supports those seeking full membership in the Catholic faith through. Cathedral Choir Back in Session
Cathedral Choir is in full swing and rehearses on Thursday evenings at 6:30 in the sanctuary. We are especially in need of tenors.

The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart (downtown Richmond) seeks a full-time Facilities Director.
This individual is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, renovation, and the upkeep of the Cathedral’s buildings and grounds and for personally performing higher level maintenance functions. This includes but is not limited to the mechanical, plumbing, electrical, hydronic and energy systems. Must have a high school diploma, management experience, ability to read blue prints, and good communication skills. Significant physical effort is required. May need to transport items weighing up to 50 pounds. The Facilities Manager oversees care of the grounds including mowing, pruning, ice and snow removal. Other responsibilities include: monitor parking, coordinate with the Museum of Virginia Catholic History, support Cathedral events as appropriate, oversees building safety and security.

Bicentennial Pilgrimage to National Shrine

Join Bishop Knestout as he kicks off the 200th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Diocese of Richmond with a spiritual pilgrimage to the Basilica in Washington, DC on Saturday, October 12, 2019. The day begins at the Basilica at 10:00 am and concludes following the Sunday Vigil Mass at 5:15 pm. The diocese will provide regional buses within an hour of each parish at the costs of $45 per participant. Pickup locations will be determined in late September. Registration is required. We are looking for volunteers to staff the Gift Shop before and after the 9:00am and 5:15pm Sunday Masses. We can schedule one Sunday or more as your schedule allows. This would involve arriving 30 minutes before Mass and staying for 30 minutes after Mass.
