Hello, parents! I’m sorry for the delay and confusion surrounding the graduation envelopes that I promised last week. This is my first time planning for a graduation, and it’s been hectic! :) I accidentally let the planning sneak up on me a little bit.
It turns out that half the items that were in the envelopes were irrelevant because I'm not responsible for certain aspects of the graduation. This Flocknote should address all relevant details. If you have any comments or concerns, please contact me.
Anyway, I’ve received a couple requests to include photo boards as part of the festivities on May 22nd. These don't need to be anything fancy, and you can do as much as you want with them, but they should be reflective of the students' time at St. James. From what I understand, there are two ways to approach the photo boards: the tri-fold posterboard that you can get at Walmart and hobby store, or just the thin posterboard that you can hang on the wall. Again, these don't need to be super fancy or anything; I just wanted to give you a heads-up that we'll be doing these as long as there's enough room in Tobin Hall to set them up. As soon as I hear back about how much space we'll have available, I will let you all know.
Also, quick update on the Adventureland permission slips: on Monday, a few parents informed me that the Adventureland trip usually lasts a little longer than I had originally planned. Before I send the permission slips home, I need to confirm that we can change the departure time from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 or 5:00 p.m.
Just two more items, and then I can stop bothering you. First, I would like to request that parents write a letter to their fifth grader. The school that I student-taught at had a ritual for their graduating 6th graders: the parents would write a letter that contained words of wisdom, pride, and encouragement. I think it would be a great idea to do this for the St. James 5th graders. These letters will be delivered to the students on the 24th, our last day of school.
And finally, we are getting shirts for the Adventureland trip, and these will also be the graduation shirts. I have some fabric Sharpies that the kids can use to sign each other's shirts as a fun souvenir. Please answer the poll on this Flocknote to indicate what size your student will need (Youth Small, Medium, or Large). The attached picture is what the shirts will look like. I tried to make "St. James School" larger, but that would've inflated costs quite a bit. The shirts will cost $30 apiece.
