Parish Weekly Update -- October 5, 2019
Good morning Parishioners of St. Joseph:
I hope everyone has had a great week and a good start to October. I hope everyone is praying for a little rain these days.
1. First Saturday -- Come join us this morning for First Saturday Mass at 10 am. Confessions begin at 9:30 am.
2. Food Pantry -- Bagging and distribution for the St. Joseph Food Pantry will be held Friday and Saturday October 25th and 26th this month.
3. CCM/college students -- are on retreat this weekend. Please keep them in prayer, that they may have a deep and profound experience of the Lord this weekend and come by ready to take the fire of God's love back out into the parish and the world.
4. Adult Education -- I just wanted to draw everyone's attention to an awesome class that Gregg Twietmeyer is holding on Sunday morning between Masses. I think he is finishing up with Bishop Robert Barron's Letter to a Suffering Church, which is fantastic if you haven't read it. I'll send our some of the videos from this class through Flocknote. He will be beginning the classic, Confessions, by St. Augustine. This is a perfect time for parents who have their children in Religious Education at that time to come get involved. If you want to take your faith and spiritual life to the next level with St. Augustine one of the greatest spiritual minds of all time, give it a shot.
5. Need for volunteers -- The St. Joseph Food Pantry carries some bags to the homebound. We are in great need of some more volunteers to help with this ministry. Please contact the Church office if you available to be a part of this. Please let us know if you'd like to volunteer in any way.
6. Parish Council -- Last week we had a parish council meeting. We discussed a number of topics, but mainly we wanted to take a look at our parish's mission statement, outlined vision, and pastoral priorities and see where we stack up 6 months after we developed them.
7. Finance Council -- The Finance Council also met last week. We welcomed Nathan Pongetti who is our newest member to the council. We discussed our financial statements, and subsequent publishing of the financials to the parish community. Very soon our audit with Watkins, Ward, & Stafford will be taking place.
8. Parishioner Information Request -- If you are not receiving Church envelopes and you feel you should be or if you have had a change of address, or if you are not receiving the Mississippi Catholic weekly publication, please call the Church office and let us know. Or send a quick email to office@stjosephstarkville.org
9. Hospital Visits, home visits, etc -- If you find yourself or one of your loved ones in the hospital please let me or someone in the church office know. Also, if you or someone you know is homebound and would like to be visited regularly by a priest, or deacon, or a eucharistic minister, please let us know.
10. Continuing Formation -- Fr. Jason and Dcn. Jeff will be out of town October 9 and 10 for our continuing formation units in Jackson. There will be no Daily Mass Wednesday or Thursday.
11. Dcn. John in St. Louis -- Dcn. John and his wife Dawn, will be in St. Louis next week continuing his work on his Doctor of Ministry in preaching at the Augustine Institute in St. Louis. Please keep him in prayer as this is a one-week intensive class.
12. Credit Cards -- I wanted to remind everyone that Credit Cards may be used to tithe at Our Sunday Visitor. This could make things more convenient for some
Peace,
Fr. Jason
