Encountering Christ Diocesan Capital Campaign UpdateAs of last week we are at 25% of our parish goal for the diocesan Encountering Christ capital campaign. We have received 52 pledges totaling $674,038. We are continuing to contact parishioners for individual visits and will soon start a series of small group receptions. Those will be designed to bring you up to date on the purpose of the diocesan campaign and to help you to make your decision on how you might support the continued building up of the Catholic Church in central Texas. Among those who will benefit from this campaign are Catholic schools, Catholic Charities, university Catholic student centers, retired priests, rural parishes and so on. For more information go to the diocesan website at

Book recommendation:
A few years ago I read Mary Doria Russell’s novel Sparrow. I was impressed by it, but I did not return to reading her books until recently when I downloaded and read Doc. That reminded me of just what a wonderful writer and story teller Russell is. Doc, is based on the life of Doc Holliday and it is a magnificent novel. Equally magnificent is Epitaph: A Novel of the OK Corral, which is a sequel to Doc. Russell’s ability to created characters and narrative is just superb. I will leave my comments at that. Just read the books and you will see.
Upcoming Blood Drive:
The Respect Life Blood Drive is coming up on Saturday, October 26 from 9 AM - 2:30 PM in Multi B/C of the Parish Life Center. Signups will be in the Narthex the weekend of October 19 and 20 after all Masses. You must be 17 years of age and at least 115 pounds to donate.
Thank you……to all who made last Sunday’s annual Fall Fest such a success. Even with the 95+ degrees it was a fun day. Special thanks to Paula Hundl, who successfully organized and led our Fall Fest effort for the first time as a member of our parish staff.
