We strive to bring hospitality and an invitation of welcoming to our parish. In Biblical times, hospitality was more than just being polite and smiling, it was a duty and an act of mercy. Traveling in the Holy Land was often dangerous. People traveled great distances between cities, roads were unsafe at times, temperatures could be extremely hot, and inns were few and far between. Travelers depended on the hospitality and kindness of strangers.
Jesus lived the life of a traveler. He traveled from town to town preaching, performing miracles and healing his followers. He relied on the kindness of others for food and lodging as he moved about.
We are all called to see the face of Christ in others. Jesus is always the generous host who invites us to the banquet of his Body and Blood. As we receive Him, let us welcome others with an open heart in His name.
