The main color of Advent is purple, similar to the color for Lent. Purple is used to represent a season of penance and preparation, as Advent is for Christmas and Lent is for Easter.
The three purple candles of Advent symbolize prayer, penance, and good works done in preparation for Christmas. The pink or rose colored candle is used on Gaudete Sunday to represent rejoicing. This marks the halfway point of Advent, and we rejoice as we come closer to Christmas.
Today's challenge: Decorate your house with candles and Advent colors, while still waiting to put out all or some of your Christmas decorations until closer to Christmas.
