Oak City Cares
is a effort to help the needy that we can all be very proud of! Under the leadership of Catholic Charities, local organizations and volunteers (including many from OLL) are regularly helping the needy with food and other services.

"The city of Raleigh and Catholic Charities started Oak City Cares, and they are in a new building this year on South Wilmington Street. Rick Miller-Haraway (blue shirt below) led the volunteers on a tour. People are able to shower, do laundry, and even obtain medical care at the center. Advance Community Health has a federal grant to help the homeless with prescriptions and even follow-up care. On 1Day4Him, 15 volunteers from Our Lady of Lourdes brought the toiletries collected from parishioners and helped sort them for the homeless. They gave each person in need a bag and let them choose what they wanted. After helping over 100 people, there were still donations left, so they helped store them at the facility for a later time. Volunteers also set up tables and fed the people."
