Encountering Christ diocesan capital campaign update and information for this weekendAs of this past week we are just over 50% of our $2.74 million goal for the diocese of Austin capital campaign. We have a number of campaign events coming up. Among them will be this weekend when we will have pledge cards in the pews at all masses at Emmaus and at Queen of Angels chapel. We need everyone to turn in a card on which you may check one of four responses. Those are:
Yes I/we agree to pledge today or increase my/our pledge. (You may then fill in the card with you pledge and, if necessary, give information for electronic giving)
Amen! I/We have already made a pledge.
Prayers, I am/We are thinking about my/our decision. Please call me/us at_________________

Prayers, I/we are unable to make a pledge at this time but offer our prayers.
When you come to mass this weekend, if you did not fill out a card at the two masses at which we did this last weekend please do so. We are in the process of making calls to parishioners and your letting us know that you can make a pledge will facilitate that process. Also if you cannot make a pledge at this time we will remove you from the call list.
If you have already completed a card, there is no need to fill out another one.Book RecommendationsWhile I was cruising the western Caribbean a couple of weeks ago I read two really terrific novels by Ronald H. Balson. Those were
The Trust and
The Girl from Berlin. Some time ago I recommended another of his novels, entitled
Once We Were Brothers. These two novels, like
Once We Were Brothers, are well written with excellent character development and compelling stories. I have to admit that I did figure out the ending of
The Girl from Berlin when I was about three quarters finished but that did not detract from my pleasure in reading the book. Balson is just such a good writer.
