New Director of Campus Ministry
Fr. Gervan Menezes, Chaplain of University Catholic, is pleased to announce that Nicholas Aguirre (ah-gear-y) has joined University Catholic as Director of Campus Ministry.
Nick is a 2014 graduate of Vanderbilt University, where he had a double major in vocal performance and economics, played free-safety on the Commodore football team and was involved with UCat and FOCUS.
“I am honored and humbled to serve as UCat’s Director of Campus Ministry for the Diocese of Nashville’s Catholic college students,” says Nick. “I experienced firsthand the dire need for Catholic community on campus. There is a burning desire in my heart to share the faith with young people and to encourage and inspire future leaders in the church.”
After graduating from Vanderbilt, Nick earned a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Alabama, where he taught college voice and was the music director for the student Mass at St. Francis of Assisi University Parish. Following Graduate School, Nick sang with a number of professional companies including the Utah Festival of Opera and Musical Theatre and Mississippi Opera, where he served as Chorus Master for The Pirates of Penzance. He taught for two years at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Middle School, where he gained valuable insight as an educator and soccer/football coach.
Upon returning to Nashville, Nick has worked as a publishing administrator while writing songs and producing Christian/Gospel Music as The Nick One Hundred. He is also a cantor and choir member at his parish, Cathedral of the Incarnation, and involved in the young adult ministry there. He has been involved with a men’s Bible Study, Knights of Columbus, 40 Days for Life, Habitat for Humanity, Loaves and Fishes, and Room in the Inn.
“Having witnessed firsthand the fruitful relationships and discipleship fostered by University Catholic, I could not be more excited to support Fr. Gervan and our team in furthering UCat’s Mission by serving the students in their walk with Christ," says Nick.
“Nick will bring great enthusiasm to UCat in casting our net wider to reach college students,” says Fr. Gervan. “Nick brings to us what we need to advance our mission to Propose Jesus Christ and Form His Disciples, moving forward.”
“A word of gratitude to Megan Quinn, who worked with us the last year, and Courtney Barnes, who jumped back in at UCat to help in this time of transition."
Nick assumes the Director of Campus Ministry position from Megan Quinn, who resigned to stay home with her newborn son John Paul.
