Encountering Christ Diocese of Austin Capital Campaign Update
Thank you to everyone who responded during the masses over the past two weekends to the in pew appeal for the diocesan Encountering Christ Capital Campaign. We received just over $175,000 in pledges. That brings our current total to just over $1.5 million. If you have not yet made a pledge, we encourage you to do that soon.
Annual Catholic Services Appeal
Each year at this time the diocese asks for our support of the ordinary operating needs of the diocese through the Catholic Services Appeal. Most of us have received information in the mail. We will have materials and pledge forms available at masses this weekend as well. Unlike past years when I spent time explaining the appeal to you, this year I am not doing that. I just ask that you make your regular annual commitment to the diocese. The CSA is apart from the Encountering Christ Capital Campaign. The CSA supports the ordinary operating costs of the diocese. The Encountering Christ Campaign funds are designated for special and future needs of the diocese apart from normal operating costs.
Flu Season
It seems that flu season is upon us. Given that, I have a few suggestions regarding participation in mass
- If you are concerned about shaking hands at the sign of peace it is okay simply to turn to people and say “Peace be with you.”
- If you are concerned about receiving from the cup it is okay not to do so. You receive the fullness of the sacrament of the Eucharist from either the host or the cup.
- If you are ill, my first advice is to stay home. You do not have to confess missing Sunday mass if you are ill or have to stay home to take care of a family member who is ill. However, if you are at mass and not feeling well please refrain from receiving from the cup.
- Use lots of hand sanitizer during the flu season.
