Saints of Hopkins and South Monterey,
I made the following announcement in worship this morning and wanted to share it with our entire community.
As many of you know, I came to Michigan because my wife Sarah got a two year teaching contract at Western Theological Seminary in Holland. The seminary recently informed us that they will not be able to extend Sarah’s teaching contract after it ends in July of 2020.
Sarah is a finalist for a faculty position at Duke University, and we will be moving back to North Carolina in June 2020.
Hopkins and South Monterey will receive a new pastor starting in July 2020.
I have loved my time with you, and I give thanks to God for our ministry together. It has been a gift and an honor to be your pastor.
And I’m not done being your pastor! I look forward to the months ahead, to continuing the good work we have begun together, and to helping you prepare to receive a new pastor in July.
If you have questions and comments about the pastoral transition, I would highly encourage you to attend our Charge Conference tomorrow night at 7pm at the Fellowship Hall at Hopkins UMC.
Rev. Dwayne Bagley, our District Superintendent, will be able to answer your questions and receive your suggestions about what kind of pastor would be the best fit for Hopkins and South Monterey.
I am also happy to talk with you after Charge Conference or after Sunday worship. I addressed the topic of pastoral transition in my sermon this morning, and it is attached if you would like to read it.
Grateful for the opportunity to be your pastor and for the months of ministry ahead!
Andrew+
