Origen, an early third century Christian Theologian, once said that while the Synoptic Gospels are “the first-fruits of all scripture,” the Gospel of John is “the first-fruit of the [Synoptic] Gospels.” Like Origen, many of the Church Fathers, theologians, and saints throughout the history of the Church have held the Gospel of John in high esteem.
Join Brother Victor, a Capuchin Franciscan Friar, for a workshop on the Gospel of John. This two-session workshop will focus on the method called, “The Three Worlds,” a useful method that helps scripture scholars dissect and discuss scripture. Specifically, this workshop will focus on the historical background of the Gospel (how the text came into being, authorship, etc.), information about the text itself (themes that make this Gospel different from the others), and how we as readers today can approach the text (reader-alert/centered approach).
This workshop is open to anyone of the parish who is interested in learning more about the Gospel of John. There is no need to have extensive prior knowledge of the Gospel, although some basic familiarity with the text can be helpful.
