Dear Parishioners,
These last days I have found myself humming the melody of the beautiful Christmas carol “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”. I wondered why until I contemplated the lyrics.
God rest ye merry, gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember, Christ, our Savior
Was born on Christmas day
The olde English word rest means remain or keep, so the meaning is “May God keep you happy. Let nothing distress you or take away your calm”.
The cause of our contentment is not the absence of challenges but the Christian message. The birth of Christ in our daily lives is our comfort and joy even on the tough days. May the light of Christ come into our hearts and minds and scatter every shadow and fear.
In this season of giving, could I also ask you to please remember our parish, your generosity enables us to make Christ tangible every day. I hope to see you in Church so that I might greet you personally.
With every blessing, I wish you God’s comfort and joy.
