Fr. Godfrey's Homily
Baptism of the Lord A 2020
St. Benedict Cathedral
There is enormous satisfaction that accompanies learning how to skip a rock across a pond. But there is greater insight when one notices the ripples caused by the contact of the stone with the water every time it skips.
Jesus doesn’t traffic in our hyper-individualism. No, he heals the blindness of one who goes and proclaims good news to many. The ripples continue. He sets the captive free who announces Christ’s liberating love. The ripples continue.
Brothers and sisters, on this feast of the baptism of Jesus, let’s realize that our good and bad deeds ripple forth as well, that our challenge is to be like the newborn King, sharing the grace and joy of wholeness, furthering a story of grace that the world needs to hear. Let’s help Christ’s ripples continue!
