Hello all,
It has been brought to my attention that there are families that are concerned with the safety of their youth on this trip. I completely understand this sentiment and want to be sure that everyone has the information they need to feel comfortable making the decision to send their youth or not.
I would like have a meeting focused on safety and safety concerns that is open to parents and youth. I suggest next Sunday January, 26 at 9:45 am. I will try to find a quiet place for us all to talk, but worst case scenario we will take over a corner of the Social Hall. I will also be at Sacred Heart by 6:00 pm for the next three weeks. If you can't make it to the safety meeting on Sunday, please feel free to stop and chat when you are dropping off your youth at regular youth nights.
In the mean time, I want you all to know that safety is the main reason we choose to do these trips through an organization like YNIA. They have site coordinators whose main task is finding works sites that have procedures, infrastructure, and experience that keep volunteers safe. In addition, the number one priority for us chaperones is making sure the youth are safe.
These trips have been a great experience, and I would love for all the youth to get to participate in at least one if possible. I'm also available to talk to parents 1-on-1. Please don't hesitate to contact me.
