Dear OLF Parishioners,
Well, here we are over half way through January and Spring is just around the corner with Lent approaching fast!! January is the month dedicated to the Holy Name of Jesus and so we give thanks for the power of this Name above all Names and use it with love and devotion to make up for all those who say it with disrespect or in anger!
We have an interesting and dynamic experience going on this Wednesday, January 22nd for a GIFT talk at the parish hall starting at 6pm: Dr. Jared Staudt, Director of Formation Catholic Schools and Evangelization and Family Life, will be giving a talk on Catholic Faith and Culture (see attachment). He is the author of 'the Beer Option' and to add first hand experience of his talk we have invited Tom Martinez, owner and proprietor of Blind Faith Brewing, who will be bringing some of his beers for us to enjoy (Please consider bringing a modest donation to both Dr. Staudt and Mr. Martinez for sharing their time and talents to enrich our minds and keep us calm and joyful in the midst of a sinful world!)
Also, please remember Kim Bunker in your prayers as she succumbed to a two year battle with cancer. She was a treasured member of our school as a third grade teacher with almost two decades of dedication to the children of the parish. Her funeral is Thursday, January 23rd, at Light of the World parish, 10:30 am.
The OLF Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring our Free Throw Championship Contest for boys and girls ages 9-14 on Sunday, January 26th from 1-4pm in the school gym. Registration is at 1 and the contest starts shortly thereafter. If you want to facilitate a quicker process forms will be available at the Miller Street vestibule, OLF School, and the table near the RE office. Competition will be based on age groups and winners receive a certificate and prize money and the chance to move on to district competition later in the year. For questions call Norbert Boeckman at 303 229 9357.

Another interesting activity from our parish:
Elijah Chalice Program:
The purpose of the Elijah Chalice Program is to encourage Parishioners to pray and
promote vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. The consecrated Chalice is a tangible
reminder of this special intention for the Church.
How does it work: Each week at the 9am Mass, the assigned parishioner/family who has had the chalice returns it with the gifts taken up at the Offertory Procession. At the end of Mass, the next assigned parishioner/family is called by the priest to come forward to receive the chalice in a wooden chest and a blessing. They should also pick up the guidebook which contains a poster of the seminarians to hang up, a series of prayer suggestions, and stationery to send notes of encouragement to the Seminarians, Priests
and Religious. The parishioner/family takes the chalice home and puts it in a place of honor. They then return it the next week at the 9 am mass at the Offertory Procession.
All parishioners are welcomed to participate and can sign up at the Knights of Columbus Council 9597 website by going to KofC9597.org and click on the Elijah Chalice link to access the sign up. The Chalice is sponsored by the Knights but is open to all parishioners. If you do not have access to a computer or prefer to just have your name added to the list contact any Knight for assistance
Thank you for taking time out to read the latest for OLF! Today, January 20th is the remembrance of a great conversion in 1842 of the Jewish banking magnate: Alphonse Ratisbonne which shook Rome because of the use of the miraculous medal in his conversion. The power of Mary with Her Divine Son knows no limits! Here is a link you might enjoy on his conversion:

Enjoy your day and from the members of the office staff, we wish you a blessed and holy week!!
