Principal's Post
I have to admit, I have been sitting here for probably too long trying to figure out what thoughts to share on this Martin Luther King Jr. Day. He would have been 91 years old today and one of my children asked me earlier this weekend, "What would he have been like today if he was alive?" and "Why was he shot?". Although I loved the curiosity of the questions I fumbled any kind of appropriate and qualified answer to satisfy the mind of an 8 and 10-year-old. These questions were prompted as we attend a birthday party for MLK Jr. that my sister-in-law has been hosting for over a decade. Before we sang happy birthday my sister-in-law challenged us to continue the legacy and mission of MLK Jr.
How do we do that?!
Here at OLP, we live by the Peace Builder Pledge which challenges us to be peace for one another and be an upstander verse a bystander. So, baby step by baby step we hope to grow a culture and a climate at OLP that seeks peace, equality, and the good in all of us. As we continue to build foundations for our students I hope they all walk away with a sense, a compass of what is right and what is wrong. I pray the students of OLP question the status quo of how people may be mistreated, excluded or marginalized because the norm has decided so.
So, on this MLK Day, I/we double down on PeaceBuilders so that our students may continue the legacy and mission of Martin Luther King Jr.

Catholic Schools Week Mass
All students are invited to sing for our Sunday Mass celebrating Catholic Schools Week, regardless of whether you usually sing with the School Mass Choir or not. Please plan to attend rehearsal on January 8, 15, and 22 in the Leo Room (lower level of the church) before school at 7:30 am.

Catholic United Catholic Schools Raffle
The Catholic Schools Raffle returns this winter to Our Lady of Peace in Minneapolis, giving you the opportunity to turn $5 into a brand new car or $20,000 in cash while supporting your local Catholic school.
Starting January 17, students from Our Lady of Peace will join students from 89 other schools across Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota in selling the $5 tickets. Each ticket purchased gives ticket buyers the opportunity to win a 2020 Buick Encore (or $20,000 in cash), or other great prizes totaling $40,000 in value. Best of all, every penny of every ticket sold stays at Our Lady of Peace thanks to the Raffle’s sole sponsor Catholic United Financial. The St. Paul-based company provides all the prizes and promotion materials for the Raffle at no cost to the participating schools.
Now in its eleventh year, the Catholic Schools Raffle has raised over $8.5 million for Catholic schools in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. This year, Catholic United is challenging the 89 participating schools to collectively raise $1 million during the six-week selling period. To help reach this goal, Our Lady of Peace hopes to sell enough tickets to raise $10,000.00. The money raised allows schools like Our Lady of Peace to provide tuition assistance, update technology systems, or to cover the cost of special learning opportunities like guest speakers and field trips.
Ticket sales begin January 17 and run through March 1. Tickets are only available at participating schools. The Grand Prize drawing ceremony takes place at 11:00 a.m. (CST) on Thursday, March 12 at the Catholic United Financial Home Office in St. Paul, MN. Scholarships!
Over the last three years, Our Lady of Peace has awarded close to $500,000 in tuition assistance so that an excellent Catholic education is available to anyone and everyone. Another opportunity for tuition assistance is through the AIM Higher Foundation that helps supports students in preschool through 8th grade.

Important Enrollment Information!
If you are currently enrolled in Prekindergarten through 7th grade your information, including payment method and payment schedule, has been rolled over automatically for the coming school year. Additionally, on February 1st, you will be charged the $150 Enrollment Fee using your current method of payment. If you need to unenroll your student(s) or put a HOLD on your enrollment status, please use the button below.
If you are currently enrolled in Preschool and are looking to enroll in preschool again, prekindergarten, or kindergarten you have also received an email from TADs with details regarding the enrollment process. I would encourage enrollment sooner than later as spots do fill quickly. If you need to unenroll your student(s) or put a HOLD on your enrollment status, please use the button below.
Finally, this is the time to apply for financial aid! You can apply for financial aid by logging in to your TADs account and filing the necessary paperwork. Financial aid does not roll over year to year as you need to reapply! This is due by February 15th and awards will be communicated by April 1st. If you do not apply for financial aid before February 15th, I cannot guarantee you will receive as much as you would qualify as much of the aid will be allocated already. But please know, OLP is committed to making our excellent Catholic education a viable option for everyone.
Get Your Punch Card
With every FIVE games attended, a student can receive an out-of-uniform pass. These can be punched at both home and away games. If you need another card, please see the office.

New OLP Birthday Tradition
Starting in December students may be out of uniform on their birthday or 1/2 birthday, or the nearest Monday or Friday if the birthday falls on a weekend. Students will be invited to the office to receive a special OLP Eagle Nation pencil. All students who have already celebrated their birthdays this year will be given a pencil and an out-of-uniform coupon.
