With the new year brings the children getting older. With that comes some new activities in the classroom. We are continue to work on responsibility and taking care of ourselves. We are also working together as a team to keep our room clean and help others! Your kiddos are doing great and continue to improve in this area.
The other new activity we will be doing is a spelling list. We started today. Now, please don't do like I did and panic because I have a child of my own who struggled with this activity in kindergarten! This is being done to expose the children to what we call CVC words (constant, vowel, constant), to practice letters, letter sounds and writing letters and to be exposed to some higher level thinking.
We will still have time to do different activities and I don't give letter grades to the kids. I really just want to give them more time with letters! This is one way.
We will not do this every week. The weeks we do, I will send home a list on Monday's of 10 words that we listened to and wrote during that day. This will give you time to practice them at home. Now, please don't drill the children. That is not a great learning tool. Encourage them to find letters, to listen for the sounds, to use magnetic letters to make the word on the fridge, write the word as you say it on paper or a dry erase board or have them find the words in a book or paper. Really, working on exposure to words and putting them together.
On Friday, we will write them again and our goal is to see improvement in all areas of learning! With all of this being said, here is this week's list.

As you can see, most of the words are from what we call a word family. The last word will be one of the words to know from our reading series. As the year goes on, we will mix these words up a bit. I will try to provide you some different ways that you can practice these words at home as suggestions.
Please reach out if you have questions.
Thank you!
