Dear Junior High Families,
As we continue to learn about the strengths and opportunities of our students and with the emergence of SPICE (Special People in Catholic Education), we are going to try something new with the Junior High! Beginning Monday, January 27, we will be utilizing 2 study halls per week to (1) focus on Science and History Fair and (2) introduce students to academic standards that offer both opportunities to reinforce and stretch needed skills in the world in which we currently live.
With an experienced faculty of 7 teachers strong, we will be supporting your children on Mondays by strengthening their Science/History Fair experience with things like data collection, data analysis, and storytelling, presentation skills, research organization and other topics TBD. The topics will be tailored to student skill levels, meeting them where they are. On Thursdays, each of our faculty members will be bringing in a unique lesson on a topic that the curriculum touches, but does not allow time for further exploration. These topics could include financial literacy, debate, US election, religious art history, and other topics TBD. On Thursdays, students will be remixed and all students will experience each lesson, tailored to their level, as faculty will rotate each week.
In essence, we are sharing SPICE with all students in the Junior High. Rest assured that we value study hall and all the benefits it brings, especially for busy families. We will continue with a traditional study hall on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
We hope to learn from this idea and continue to evolve it through 3rd and 4th quarters. We would appreciate your support in discussing this with your child. We will also be talking with them, answering all their questions, helping them get organized, and making sure expectations are clear and simple. We will be communicating with you weekly in a newsletter published through Flocknotes and/or School Speak.
Many thanks and blessings to all!
