Parish Update -- February 22, 2020
Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph:
We've got a busy few weeks and a busy season upon us. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
1. Mardi Gras Party -- We are celebrating Mardi Gras at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, February 26, 2020. Let's get everybody there. Monetary donations will be accepted to benefit the St. Joseph Food Pantry and the Modern Woodmen will match, up to $2,500 of those donations!
2. Ash Wednesday, February 26 is this coming Wednesday away. We will have Masses at 7 AM, 12:05 PM, and 7 PM. Here are some of our Lenten Activities:
- Stations of the Cross -- Every Friday during Lent we will be praying the Stations of the Cross as a community at 5:30 PM. Please come and join us and then come up to the Parish Hall for some Catfish.
- Men's Prayer Breakfast -- Tuesday's beginning March 3 at 7 AM, we will be discussing the characters of the Passion of Christ. The Knights will be preparing a great breakfast those days as well.
- Parish Reconciliation Service -- It's a good idea to go to Confession during the season of Lent. We will offer a night of Reconciliation after the 5:30 Mass on Thursday, March 26 -- around 6 PM. Remember that other confession times are posted as well and you can always make an appointment.
- Parish Mission -- To enter more deeply into the season of Lent, Luke Arredondo will offer a Parish Mission for us on the nights of March 17th and 18th at 7 PM.
- Ministerial Association Lenten Lunches -- will be at First United Methodist Church again this year on Wednesdays beginning March 4.
3. RCIA Retreat -- Please pray for our RCIA candidates and catechumens who are on retreat today at the Dwelling Place in Brooksville, MS with our very own, Fran Lavelle as retreat master.
4. Projects -- You will see that some work has been done this past Friday to the back entrance of the Parish Center. The brick walls and sidewalk have been removed, drainage has been rerouted, and new concrete has been laid. It isn't completely dry yet or cured, but the other doors to the center will be open for music practice, Rule 62, and Religious Education classes this weekend.
5. No Mass or Confession on Tuesday -- I will be in Jackson most of the day for some meetings, but I hope to be back for the Mardi Gras Party Tuesday evening.
6. Junior CYO -- Dcn. Jeff and some parents have reignited the youth group for our 7th & 8th graders here at St. Joseph. They met last night and had a great time. They're getting together about once a month to have some community, some spirituality, and some fun.
7. Remembering the parish in your will -- Some recommendations have come up about this lately. If you need help with this, please contact us at the parish office.
Peace,
Fr. Jason
