If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? (From James 2:14-24, 26)
We hear a lot of “our thoughts and prayers are with you” from our leaders and from one another, but what we need to see is action! We hear a lot of people say that they’re Christians or good people, yet we don’t see the fruits of those statements all too often. Thoughts and prayers are very important, but they don’t put food in front of the hungry, clothing on the backs of the naked, comfort to the one who needs a hug, or peace to the one who just lost a family member in another war or school shooting. We are called to lift up our voices in prayer, but we’re also called to be the hands and feet of Christ here on earth! We are called to do his work! We are called to “walk the walk,” not just “talk the talk!” Follow the words AND deeds of Christ! Put your faith into action! Pray AND act! Pray for your neighbor AND act on their behalf! Show your faith by loving doing something today, my sisters and brothers in Christ! Amen!
