Things are quickly changing as officials struggle to find the correct response to COVID-19. Archdiocese of San Francisco K-12 school facilities will close March 12-25, with online classes and paper handout packets used to help students keep pace. The
University of San Francisco has cancelled in-person classes and has gone on-line through March 29.
SF State is online through April 5. The Archdiocese of San Francisco has issued
guidelines for reception of the Eucharist and Mass attendance, with special concern for the elderly and those with health issues. The San Francisco Chronicle offers
up-to-date information. Information from the federal Centers for Disease Control is
here.
A Catholic virtual health website,
MyCatholicDoctor, has dedicated part of its site to COVID-19. The site, essentially a virtual medical practice which launched last year with more than 40 medical professionals, has an on-call infection control officer available as well as a COVID-19 readiness team.
What about the more than 8,000 homeless people in San Francisco? St. Anthony's Foundation closed its dining room, instead distributing meals as to-go containers at the door. Phone help is substituted for in-person social work and other appointments. Among the
precautions, guests to the Winter Shelter will have their temperature taken and be screened before entry.
At a government level, San Francisco Mayor London Breed Monday allocated $5 million to expand cleaning services in shelters, homeless resource centers and residential hotels and to provide meals and expand shelter hours for any shelters that do not already operate 24/7. City officials are planning to allocate RVs at the Presidio and offer other housing for homeless who need a shelter to quarantine.
