Dear Xavier Catholic School families,
A few important notes as we venture into week 1 of e-learning and some type of normalcy in our homes; I am sure that "normal" looks different than when we left for spring break, but it is my hope and prayer that all of you are well, healthy, and embracing the extra time you have with family.
Choose Joy
When Xavier Catholic School teachers met this morning for virtual meetings, the theme, Choose Joy, was shared as the foundation for all we do together in the coming weeks. As an introduction to this, the video below was shown. I would encourage you to find some time in the next week to watch this 5 minute video that truly sums up our current national setting and our response. As the educators of your children, we are going to work on choosing joy and sharing that with your child(ren) and our Jaguar family.
COVID-19 Prevention
The Iowa Department of Public Health recommends that Iowans who have returned from traveling outside the state for business or vacation in the last 14 days voluntarily self- isolate for 14 days following their return and monitor for fever and other symptoms.
Reporting COVID-19 Exposure
If you have confirmed exposure (i.e.via travel, family member), are in self-quarantine for any reason, or have received a diagnosis of COVID-19, please contact Amy Conlon at aconlon@stmatthewcr.org. We are tracking the disease in our school community in cooperation with Linn County Public Health. This information will be kept confidential.
E-Learning: K-5
Xavier Catholic Schools teachers met this morning and will be meeting again tomorrow to finalize plans for learning opportunities for students. Tomorrow we plan to send families a general example of what these learning opportunities will look like at the various levels (elementary, middle school, high school).
To ensure our students are continuing to feel connected and supported on a social, emotional, academic and spiritual level throughout this closure, teachers will be reaching out at least once per week to check-in with families and students as well.
Student Belonging
We will be working on and developing a plan for those who still need to pick up materials in the coming days. Many of the teachers have student belongings, which may mean that you will hear from them regarding a plan to get materials in your hands. Thank you for your patience and flexibility.
At Home Dress Up Days
To help us all get through e-learning week 1, we are going to do some fun dress up days! Please be sure to post your pictures to the St. Matthew Jaguar Connection page so we can all have a little fun this week! PS if you haven't already become a member of the Jaguar Connection page on Facebook, do that now!

We understand that this is a stressful time for many in our community. We want to reiterate our thanks for your trust in us as we work to move forward through these times. May God continue to bless you and your family.
