First of all, we appreciate all you do at home to support instruction and student learning! Here are some ideas and expectations to keep moving forward.
I really enjoyed seeing many of your workspaces this week. If you haven't shared please try to do so on the fifth grade facebook page.
I asked that each student make a calendar/checklist focusing on three subjects per day. Please do that and send a copy to our facebook page or to me. Check Nora's out on our Facebook page!
In Math we ended on our mid chapter check. From there we have lessons 10.5,10.6 10.7 and the review test which we will use as our Chapter test (don't forget to do the homework practice page before the review/chapter test). I suggest doing math at least three times a week. Begin with the workbook lesson and do evens or odds for your practice pages. Then do the homework page. If you type go math, grade, and lesson number into Khan academy it will give you a tutorial if you need it. To grade the homework type in go math fifth grade answers for lesson 10.5... It would be a great idea for your student to record their grades and practice averaging them every couple of weeks. Please let me know how they are doing( hoping to do this in the google classroom soon), or if I can help! I also think that right now it is important that we do not have lots of papers going back and forth if we can help it. Oh, and don't forget to practice your math facts.
In LARS many of you have finished The Bridge Home and activities. Please continue if you have not. The story in our textbook this week will be Rachel's Journal the Story of a Pioneer Girl. Please complete the packet that goes with it. Take your spelling test and record it.....then # What a great time to have a pioneer week and engage in some creative projects we do not always have time for!!! Here are some ideas: play tug of war, gunny sack races, cat's cradle, horseshoes, hand shadows and whirligigs. Make butter, biscuits, stew, potato cakes, taffy, and ice cream. Design log cabins or covered wagons, get creative! Look on the internet. Get the whole family involved! Please journal as Rachel did: 1.) If your parents were moving and told you to pack three outfits, two books, and one toy, what would you take? 2.)Describe your one room cabin on a winter evening (sights, sounds, smells, tastes and touches.3.)When you settle in, your closest neighbors are immigrants. Make a list of 10 words you would try to teach them and explain why .Don't forget to watch Little House on the Prairie ;)
These activities will qualify for Social Studies work. Share your fun on our Facebook page!!!!!!!!
In Science read the text book a section at a time per class time and think about the questions at the end. Write vocabulary in your notebooks. Get on the foss web.(my password kling123) There is a new student section that is easier to use for videos...Research and make some mixtures and solutions. What is the difference between the two?
Don't forget Moby Max( good resource for science and social studies skills) and Typing Pal. Watch for the google classroom in progressssss.....
