Dear parish families and friends,
I hope that everyone are well and getting in some prayer and rest during these days. Today's scripture passage (Jn 8: 1-11) reminds us how compassionate and loving God really is.
The pharisees and scribes bring a woman, who was caught in adultery, to Jesus. They are not so much concerned about penalizing the woman for her actions as they are trying to trap Jesus. They asked Him what should be done to the woman. Jesus does not play into their trickery. Instead, He turns the tables on them and says: "Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." (Jn 8:7).
In this time of confusion and worry, we may become critical of others and point out their faults. This is a wonderful time to evaluate our own consciences and do a check list of how we stand before God.
Take some time over these next few days as we prepare for Holy Week and do an examination of conscience. Some people are asking about the sacrament of confession. Please call the rectory and set up a time with any of the priests. They will take it from there.
That woman told Jesus that all those who accused her walked away. Jesus told her in a loving way: "Neither do I condemn you. Go [and] from now on do not sin any more." Jn 8:11 These are the last words a priest generally says at the end of confession. See you soon.
God bless,
Fr. Pat
