Brothers and Sisters,
There are many words to describe the purpose of Advent-renew, rejoice, repent, resign, be prepared. It seems to me that the special words are “be prepared.” It’s clear from Scripture - The Son of Man will come to judge. We need to be prepared.
We hear so many times in the Advent season the theme of being prepared. However, another important theme is waiting, not exactly a modern virtue. We are into things being instant, from coffee, to relief, to happiness. We want it NOW. We seem to have an unwillingness or even an inability to wait. In the spiritual life, waiting with patience is a necessity. We need to sit quietly to hear the Lord speak. Close your eyes, sit quietly, and listen. Especially in this season when candles are so important, symbolic of the light of Jesus, sitting quietly in the light of a candle can really help us with this listening.
Wake up to the need to be prepared and then to renew your faith as you cultivate a calm, meditative, spiritual Advent journey.
Have a Blessed and Spirit-Filled Advent Season,
Deacon Del
