Dear St. John's Family,
This weekend we will continue our
Advent Preaching Series, "ENCOUNTER," at all the weekend Masses, picking up where we left off last week. This Advent we are invited to make a choice for Christ, and to be awakened from our spiritual slumber to enter into a deeper relationship with God. This week we will talk about obstacles to having an intimate relationship with the Lord and how we can remove them.
Please pray for our
Confirmation Candidates who leave for retreat this evening and return on Sunday as they prepare for this sacrament. Fr. James and I will be celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation with them on Saturday and Fr. James will have Mass with them on Sunday at the retreat center.
At our Roma Gala, Fr. James agreed that, if a special appeal of the Gala yielded $10,000 he would spend the night on the roof of the school. Well, the generous crowd pitched in and donated $14,000! As long as it doesn't rain, Fr. James will be camping out this Tuesday evening, Dec. 6. You might want to stop by in the evening, or in the morning, to say hello and lend your support. We will know that our campus will be in good hands overnight! If you didn't attend the Gala and would like to support Fr. James' effort you can make a donation by going to
http://events.readysetauction.com/stjohnevangelist/roma and choosing "Donate Money" or send a check to the Parish Center with a note saying "Fr. James on the Roof." I wonder what he would do if we were able to reach $20,000?
This Sunday is
Donut Sunday after the 9 AM Mass. Stop in the school auditorium after Mass for coffee, donuts, and fellowship. NEXT SUNDAY, we will have a
PARISH BREAKFAST in the auditorium. Free will offerings will support our youth ministry programs. Plan to enjoy a great breakfast of eggs, breakfast meats, coffee, juice, pastries, and more!
We will hold a
New Parishioner Welcome Reception this Sunday after the 10:45 AM Mass in the Gathering Space Meeting Room. If you are new to the parish, please stop by to learn more about the parish and enjoy some refreshments.
This Thursday, Dec. 8 is the
Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a Holy Day of Obligation. Join us in celebrating this patronal feast for our nation! Masses will be celebrated at 6:30, 8:30 & 10:15 AM and 7 PM.
Are you, or someone you know, looking for purpose in life? Do you struggle with the idea of God and where he fits into the scheme of things? St. John's will be sponsoring the
ALPHA course on Tuesday evenings starting January 17. Each night will begin with a delicious meal, free of charge, followed by an engaging talk and discussion. This is a come as you are event - no expectations. We will have limited enrollment, with priority given to those who are simply seeking to learn more about God, life, faith, and how they fit together. No religious background required or expected! Watch for registration information in the coming weeks as we will be limited in the numbers we can host. Start thinking about someone you can invite to Alpha!
Have a blessed week as we continue our journey of ENCOUNTER with the Lord this holy Advent season.
