As could have been expected, many members of our parish community are falling on hard times as employment is unstable and government resources not yet distributed. Please consider donating to our Easter Food Drive, items needed are:
Beans, Rice, Peanut Butter, and other nutritious, shelf stable, non-perishable foods.
Drop off items in the bins outside of the Mother Seton Room from 9 AM - 5 PM Wednesday, April 8 through Saturday, April 11.
Our Daily Bread is also still in need of casseroles! As long as we're able, parishioners will be driving casseroles to ODB weekly, every Wednesday morning. Please drop off Zippy Beef casseroles from 8-9 AM in front of the Parish Center tomorrow morning. For more info, see the note below:
As a SHG Community, we can still support
Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen in Baltimore in a modified way from our monthly ODB Ministry. Last week, SHG parish delivered 26 casseroles and a car full of other items to ODB! They were thrilled!
ODB Ministry leader Mark Grabenstein and parishioner Vicki Mahr will again be collecting the needed items (once a week, weather, health, and laws permitting) on Wednesdays from 8am – 9am, including this Weds, April 8th, in front of the PARISH CENTER, until SHG and all Churches, can provide the regular monthly support of the normal ODB Casserole program.
How can you help?
Make a “Zippy Beef” Casserole (or two). The recipe is below and we will have the pans for you to pick on Weds. morning for the following week! Or buy a pan at the store (roughly 9”x12”) and we will replace it on Weds. If you can’t find the ingredients, or would rather buy needed items, ODB is also in need of single serve applesauce, juice boxes, granola bars, fruit cups, sliced lunch meets & cheeses.
And to answer the question, is this allowable under the most recent Governor’s Executive Order?
From his proclamation 3/30/20: “The order does not apply to the movement of staff and volunteers traveling in connection with their duties at any nonprofit organization or facility providing essential services to low income persons including without limitation, homeless shelter, food banks, and soup kitchens.”
So YES it is allowed while following all guidelines. We will be Social Distancing, and will wear masks and gloves as we accept casseroles and goods. You can place them on a table or directly into our car with no contact with us.
ODB is providing roughly 10,000 meals a week to those less fortunate in grab-n-go containers EVERY DAY! We can do our part!
We look forward to the time of providing casseroles by our monthly program on the 4th Weds. of the month, but for now we will adjust our methods to serve our neighbors in need in these challenging times.
Thank you!
Kind regards,
Zippy Beef Serves 8 - 10 Ingredients:

A Thank You Note from Our Daily Bread:
From the Catholic Charities’ Parish Social Ministry team I just want to thank you for all that you and the people of Sacred Heart are doing to help us feed our neighbors in need. As we travel through COVID-19 together and learn to lean on our neighbors in new ways we are especially grateful for these gifts.
While I am eagerly awaiting the day that we can begin to connect in-person again, we continue to be bonded together as the body of Christ even from afar. I believe that as we keep serving together, in solitude but also in solidarity from our own homes, we can remind ourselves of this communion we share and be strengthened. Thank you for your partnership in this and the love of Christ you are sharing.
Peace,
Sarah
