Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. John's,
This weekend those preparing to receive First Holy Communion will participate in Enrollment Masses on Saturday at 5:15 PM and Sunday at 9 & 10:45 AM. Let's keep these children in our prayers as they anticipate receiving the Lord in the Eucharist this coming spring!
Alpha begins this Tuesday! We'd love to have you join us! If you, or a friend that you can invite along, struggles with questions related to life, faith, God, or church please join us this Tuesday evening to share a delicious meal, hear a relevant talk, and share in thoughtful discussion. One need not be Catholic, Christian, or even believe in God to participate in Alpha. Come as you are! Go to
www.stjohnsp.org/alpha to learn more and to register.
Did you know that our parish now offers child care at the 9 & 10:45 AM Masses? While children are always welcome at Mass, we provide this service to give parents a little break and provide our kids with a safe place to be while Mom and Dad pray. Children ages 1-4 can come to child care at the Parish Center (right behind church - drop off at the side door). Kids aged 4-9 are invited to participate in Children's Liturgy of the Word most Sundays, where they are dismissed after the Collect (Opening Prayer) and return after the Liturgy of the Word is completed. They have their own service of scripture as they pray together in a way that is age appropriate.
We are saddened to be losing Fr. James Boric as he prepares to take up his new post as Rector of the
Baltimore Basilica on Feb. 20. He has been a great Associate Pastor during his all-too-brief tenure with us. Plan now to join with him for a Farewell Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 10:45 AM, with a reception in the auditorium afterwards. If you would like to contribute to a parish monetary gift, place it in an envelope marked "Fr. James Farewell Gift" and put it in the collection at Mass or send it to the Parish Office. You may also do so online at
www.stjohnsp.org/giving as a special fund has been set up for this purpose. Of course a table will be available at the reception for cards or gifts.
Monday, January 16 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. All offices will be closed, but Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 AM.
Also, please keep in your prayers Msgr. Adam Parker and Msgr. Mark Brennan who will be ordained bishops this Thursday and become our new Auxiliary Bishops in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. May God bless them in their new ministry!
