Novena for All Young Adults in Maine Set for May 22-30
May 15, 2020
PORTLAND---Aware of the challenges that young adults are facing during this time of pandemic and conscious that they cannot presently gather together, the Diocese of Portland’s Office of Lifelong Faith Formation has crafted a novena for young adults.
The novena will begin on Friday, May 22, and will run through Saturday, May 30, with an optional prayer of thanksgiving on May 31 (Solemnity of Pentecost).
Each day of the novena is focused on praying for a different young adult demographic: college seniors, those who live alone and cannot be with family, the underemployed and unemployed, those struggling with mental health issues, couples in marriage preparation and who have postponed weddings, all married couples, expectant mothers, families, and all young adults, especially those in the healthcare profession.
“Each day will have a different saint interceding and guiding us as we pray for that particular audience of young adults,” said Hannah Gonneville of the Office of Lifelong Faith Formation.
“During this time of pandemic, I wanted to gather our young adult community together in prayer,” said Hannah, who wrote the novena herself. “The Office of Lifelong Faith Formation had done novenas as a substitute for other gatherings such as the Women’s Conference, and so I knew I wanted to find a novena related to the challenges that young adults find themselves in now.”
