Men of St. Monica's HNS
As another fiscal year for the Holy Name Society and Men's Group draws to a close we wanted to provide this short note and a thank you. This year clearly ends unlike any we have seen before. What was not different was the commitment of our members and the help we received from so many nonmembers and partner organizations that we hope allowed us to bring a little heaven on earth to some of God’s children.
This year....
- We were able to put our tools and energy to good use:
- to assemble furniture for the Youth Group/Religious Education rooms;
- to help set up and clean up for the Parish Feast Day Picnic
- to help set up and break down the gym for The Walking with Purpose event featuring Sherry Weddell
- to provide some “handyman” work to a number of Parishioners in need:
- to man the parking lot and hall duty at the All Abilities Ministry Prom
- to help with the set up for Helping Hands
- to organize and present our 23rd Annual Team Trivia Night
- We provided donations to:
- Berwyn Firehouse
- St. Monica’s Youth Group
- St. Monica’s Outreach Ministry
- Legacy of Life
- Parishioners in need
- Saint Francis Inn Ministry in Kensington for our Gloves for Guys initiative
- Saint Gabriel’s Food Drive for Thanksgiving Dinner Turkeys.
- We broke bread with our members at 30 Main for our annual Christmas dinner.
- We organized and transported a number of our parishioners to the Miracle of Christmas show at the Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster, PA.
- We attended the annual retreat at the Malvern Retreat House, this one especially impactful since our own Fr. Zlock was our Retreat Director. Thanks Padre!
- We launched our new website and Flocknote communication system.
- But most important for over 4 decades the Holy Name Society has worked to promote reverence to God’s Holy Name through our actions. As many of you our theme and mission is to offer the three S's - Spiritual, Service and Social for the entire parish community.
- The social is clearly on hold right now and our Spiritual and Service elements do look somewhat different for the time being but we will return in full force soon.
- If you are interested in joining our mission, return a message to this Flocknote and a board member will be in touch with you. We have different levels of involvement that will fit your time and interests - ALL of which meets our mission. We look forward to serving, praying and breaking bread with you. Stay tuned during our off season (June, July and some of August), as messaging will continue as we gear up for the 2020/21 fiscal year. It promises to be yet another busy year, but need you to help out in our mission for the parish community.
- The Society is very excited and pleased to announce one of our parish members volunteering to take on our Vice President role - Mr. Bill Mannion. On behalf of our entire HNS membership - Thank you Bill - glad to have you on our leadership board.
One last item..... We have a LONG term, VERY active member sadly moving on. Our hats go off with best wishes and enormous thanks to Kevin Clark, as he and his wife Pat are moving, but.... NOT too far away. Just up the road, but into another parish. Kevin has provided his leadership, vision and his volunteer efforts time after time, in all that the HNS provides. YOU WILL BE MISSED. As many of you know, Kevin is the co-chair and the question guru that FIRST provided us this crazy idea of Team Trivia Night to the HNS 23 years ago. We all thought he was crazy. Boy were we all wrong! Am sure I speak for our entire HNS membership AND the parish for Kevin's dedication to our society and to the entire parish (lector too). We will ALL miss Kevin at our meetings and we wish Kevin and Pat the very best. NOT to worry all.... Kevin (as per the contract he signed 23 years ago) will sill provide his keen insight in providing the questions and answers to our future Team Trivia Nights.
All for now gentlemen.
Stay well..... stay healthy..... stay safe
