Dear Parishioners:
I know we are all anxious to get back to public Masses here at Sacred Heart. Although things are starting to open up around the State, we are still under the restrictions of Prince George’s County and do not know at this time when we will be able to open for Masses.
What I can share with you is that we have pulled together a small group of parishioners to formulate guidelines on what measures we will have to take to keep everyone safe and healthy when we do open for public Masses. We are following the guidelines and safety measures given by State and Local authorities and health officials, and the Archdiocese of Washington. Things will look a lot different from what we are used to.
Attendance at Mass will be limited and everyone 2 years or older will be required to wear a face mask. Social distancing will still be in place. Also, dispensation from the Sunday and holy day obligation will remain, due to the limited number of faithful who might be able to attend Mass and that those in a vulnerable category may choose to remain home.
Those attending Mass will be encouraged to receive Holy Communion in their hands; however, receiving on your tongue will still be an option. We will provide more step-by-step instructions on how to receive Holy Communion in the weeks to follow.
We will continue to provide you updates as things progress in this fluid situation. Please be assured of my prayers for you and those affected by the coronavirus.
Feel free to pass this information along with other parishioners and encourage them to join Flocknote to receive the latest information. They can join Flocknote by going to our website, www.sacredheartbowie.org.
Sincerely in Christ,
Father Potts
