We are one
“I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me.” (Jn 17:20-21)
Today’s gospel is from the conclusion of Jesus’s final prayer before departing for the Garden of Gethsemane and the events of the Passion. Jesus prayed for unity among his disciples and for all us who believe in him through his word. Jesus draws us all into his prayer to the Father, asking that we be made one, as the Holy Trinity is one in unity and love. It is love that unifies the Holy Trinity and it is love that allow us to experience God present in our community. In today’s world of division and self-centeredness, what can we do to show the love and unity of the Holy Trinity in our families, our community and the world?
